0507 Matteo riding his R1

this is the first of the pannings i've taken at the magione circuit, near perugia, in the center of italy.
it was very hard to shoot these photos because of the huge distance between where i was and the circuit. i wasn't allowed to get any nearer than over 100 meters from the track and then i needed to take my pictures with the 70-200 + tc-20e ii, a 2x teleconverter. i was then able to get a good 400/5.6 focal length, but doing such pannings require times around 1/40 or 1/50th of second, very hard to do even with a "vr" lens.
using a monopod with the stabilizer isn't recommended, but with such long times was abolutely necessary to use it.
as for the first image you've seen, this is a provia 100f taken with a nikon f5, a nikkor af-s 70-200/2.8g ed if vr and a teleconverter 2x nikon tc-20e ii.
the monopod used for these pannings is a manfrotto with a ball head.
