this is the first shot of a new serie made of many, many images taken at the "gara degli alfieri sbandieranti" in faenza, which, in english, would be something like "the flags tournament".
every year, we have a very famous fair named "niballo, palio di faenza" in faenza. this is made of 3 different tournaments --in the medieval meaning of the word--, 2 of which with horses and the other with flags. the tournament of flags is made of 3 different tournaments, the first attended by singles --which use up to 6 flags each!!!--, the second is for "small teams" --6 men each-- and the last, and most impressive, for "big teams" --which can be made of 10 to 16 men--. in small and big teams, every men uses 2 flags.
the first 6 images i'm going to upload are details of the medieval costumes people wear during these tournaments. you'll see 3 different drums, used by people living in different parts of the city, and 3 details of costumes.
this first drum style is owned by "rione bianco" --a rione in italian is a part of a city, a sort of quarter but with a more traditional than simply topographical meaning--.
